Rights of Everyone

Over the year we will all be studying the following texts which will enrich everyone's cross curricular topics:

  • Goodnight Mr Tom (World War II)
  • Around the world in 80 days (Victorian transport)
  • Charlotte's web (Animals and habitats)
  • Escape from Pompeii (Romans and settlements)
  • The Jamie Drake equation (Earth, sun and moon)
  • Who let the Gods out ( Ancient Greece)

Over the year, all children will be invited to join us on trips including Greek workshops and Adventure Farm. They will also experience a planetarium coming into school.

I hope your child has a fantastic year!

The Year 5 team.

Book curriculum

In Autumn 1, we are studying Escape from Pompeii. In the story, everyone is continuing with their everyday lives until suddenly all is not well! Something has changed. But what? Something is looming in the distance....Mount Vesuvius begins to rumble.

In Year 5, in Autumn 2 we studied Goodnight Mr Tom. In the story William is evacuated to the

country to live with Mr Tom. As the story develops, their relationship blossoms until disaster

strikes and William needs to go back to his Mum's. He sadly misses Mr Tom. Will he

ever see him again?

Our next book is Around The World In 80 Days. Philleas Fogg encounters many difficulties as he heads off around the world on his adventures including train robberies, elephant and balloon rides. Can he make it around the world before time runs out? Only time will tell.

In Spring 1, we are reading Charlotte's Web. Charlotte is a spider with incredible powers. She can spin amazing webs and save small piglets from being made into Christmas dinner! Her next task to save is Wilbur. Wilbur is surely destined for the dinner table! But will Charlotte save her?

In Summer 1, we are reading The Jamie Drake Equation. Jamie lives with his Mum but seems to have an unhappy time at school and nobody knows why. As the plot unfolds, Jamie meets some special visitors, the Gods, and finds himself in even more trouble than normal. Can the Gods really save Jamie and his Mum?

Autumn 2 2020: We have written letters as if we were evacuees during World War II. The three below were picked by Year 5 as being the best! We are certainly flourishing! Mr Pepper has even made a film about us entitled "The Blitz". This helped us with our writing.

Look at our Blitz paintings which go with our letter writing! We used pointillism to make our pictures. We used dots of various colours which we mixed to create this effect.
