British Values

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

Behaviour to promote British Values

Our School Ethos sits at the heart of all that we value. We want to enable our diverse community to flourish through, promoting personal values, enriching learning, showing ambition and respecting the rights of others.

We pledge to instil personal values and encourage children to show pride, passion and perseverance.

We pledge to enrich learning so children can demonstrate enthusiasm, excellence and exploration.

We pledge to have ambition for all to raise appreciation, aspirations and achievement.

We pledge to recognise the rights of everyone to ensure children are ready, respectful and responsible.

At Pear Tree we aim to create a caring atmosphere in which teaching and learning can take place in a happy and safe environment. In order to achieve this we recognise the importance of a whole school policy that supports Fundamental British Values and allows our pupils:

  • The right to learn
  • The right to feel safe
  • The right to respect and fair treatment

Our School Rules are closely aligned to ensure we achieve the above aims. We want all our children to:

  • Be Ready
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible

Through our Pear Tree Promise, the pupils promise to show the following attitudes to learning:

  • Perseverance - Showing resilience on a task
  • Enquiry - Questioning, investigating and making links
  • Aiming High - Challenging yourself to know and do more
  • Reflection - Acknowledging how well you have done and what you will do next
  • Teamwork - Working together to achieve a shared goal
