HELLO FROM YEAR 6! September 2020

Resources below are from 2019/2020

Home Learning Challenges During School Closures

'The learning never stops'

As I am sure you aware, schools across Britain will partially close today - Friday 20th March (except for the most vulnerable and pupils of 'Key Workers'). However that doesn't mean that the learning stops!

We have already delivered home learning packs to every Year 6 child - so there is plenty for them to learn and do!

Over the coming weeks we will be sharing learning through the following means:

- Marvellous Me

- Showbie

- Uploading learning challenges to our website

- Sending work home in person and through post where possible.

If you have not downloaded the Marvellous Me app, please contact the school office who will be happy to help.

We remind you to follow the government advice of isolating yourselves if appropriate, washing hands and maintaining social distancing.

These are challenging times for everyone but we are confident that we will get through this. We look forward to the time when all this is over and we can see each other again at school.

Take care and keep persevering!

The Y6 Team

TRANSITION TO SECONDARY SCHOOL

It was great to hear from so many of your secondary schools over the last couple of weeks. It is an exciting time but we also know it can be quite a challenging time also.

By now you should have all had a chance to speak virtually with staff from your secondary school as well as watch virtual tours and read key information about what to expect in September.

We have also sent out details on how to apply for FSM (Free School Meals) and Free School transport for those that are eligible.

Please find below links to some of the secondary schools and their transition details below.

As always, if there are any further questions or you need any further support, please do not hesitate to contact us through the school office on 01332 760610.

The Storm Will Pass

We hope you all had a safe and relaxing Easter break.

Today would have been the start of the summer term. So on this day we would like to send our children a message of hope. After a month of school closures we can start to feel a bit down - so we thought in testing times we would like to spread some optimism and hope - this storm will pass and we will again be learning and flourishing together.

We would like the children to know we are thinking of them and we know that they are thinking of each other. To show this care for one another we are asking your  children to create and decorate a heart to display in their window - or on their profile picture on Showbie with the phrase - 'The Storm Will Pass'.

This will show other children that we are thinking of each other and together we will get through this.

Please share photos of the finished creations with school via showbie or twitter .  We have attached a template if you wish to print and use.

Here is the example template:

Autumn 2 - Our Learning 2019

We have had an exciting half - term in Year 6!

English - We studied a fantastic novel by David Almond called 'Skellig' - the children (and staff) loved it!

We also had a workshop where children were able to handle and meet some owls! It was amazing!

Pear Tree Promise - Our focus was on Perseverance this half-term. We had some great activities on Perseverance Day at the start of term. Check out some of the pictures!

December - The children traveled to The Galleries of Justice for an enthralling day learning about Crime and Punishment! This half - term was even better than the last one!

Crime and Punishment

We will look at various institutions including: The Government, Judiciary, Police Force as well as societal changes.

Children will have the opportunity to learn about various crimes in different eras as well as the various punishments.

As part of the topic we will also be going on a trip to The Galleries of Justice in Nottingham! Watch this space!

Autumn 1 - How to be a model citizen - 2019/20

Last half term during our English lessons Year 6 studied an amazing book called 'There's a boy in the girl's bathroom' by Louis Sachar. The book explored a number of themes including friendships, aspirations, hopes as well as achieving our targets. We also looked at linking our geography work to the text which was on understanding continents with a focus on America, where the story is set.
