A great start to the year!

We have had a fantastic start to the year so far. All the children have settled in brilliantly! They are all showing our

PEART values which are:

P- Perseverance

E- Enquiry

A- Aiming High

R- Reflection

T- Teamwork

As well as our PEART values. All children follow the three school rules which are:

Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Responsible

We call these our Super Hero Powers and Code. Ask your child how they have used the Super Hero Code at school. I am sure they will be able to give you lots of reasons on how they have!

Autumn 1 Examples of our work! (2021-2022)

Look at what we have been up to!

Topics throughout the year.

Over the year, we will be reading and studying the following texts which link into our cross curricular learning.

- Flood, Fire and Cyclone (Natural Disasters)

- The Invention of Hugo Cabaret. (Electricity and inventions)

- The Firework Maker's Daughter (China)

- Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx (Ancient Egyptians)

- The Riddle of the Runes. (Vikings)

Along side these books, we will also use a range of books to enhance and enrich the children's learning.

Times Table Rockstars

In June 2020, the new Year 4 Multiplication Check will become statutory. Your child will need to take a short online test to make sure their times tables knowledge is at the expected level. By the end of Year 4, your child is expected to know all their times tables up to 12 x 12. Your child will be asked 25 questions. They will have 6 seconds per question to answer.

How can we help?

At school we use Times Table Rockstars. This is a great website for helping children learn their times tables. They will be provided with lots of opportunities to go on this in school to improve their fluency. Please encourage your child to go on this at home. Every child has a username and password. Please speak to your child's class teacher if you are unsure of their login.

How can you help?

Please quiz your child daily on their times tables. This will help with their fluency. The 6, 7 8 and 9 times table are the most trickiest so it would be great if you could quiz your child on these.

Autumn 2 Learning Highlights 2019

Autumn 1 2019

We kick started the term off by learning about Derby and what our Year 4 classes are named after. We created some beautiful pieces of writing about our classes.

We then started out Natural Disaster topic. We have been reading Flood, Fire and Cyclone by Jackie French. The children have loved learning about Natural Disasters. The children can not believe the damage and impact they can cause. They created some fantastic repetitive poems based on them.

During our Maths lessons, we have been learning about place value. We have been working very hard on our presentation and explaining our answers mathematically. Throughout topic, we have been going into more detail about natural disasters. Over the half term, we will be covering: floods, cyclones, tsunamis, earthquakes, forest fires and volcanoes. Throughout science, we will be learning about sound and how sound travels.
