Yr 4 - Derbyshire Towns
Welcome to Year 4
This year in Year 4 we have looked at Animals and their habitats. We had a visit from some reptiles, rabbits and hamsters.
Whilst learning about Derby, we went on a walk in the local community. We looked at the shops in our local area and the places of worship close to us. We also discussed what Derby means to us as individuals.
During our Normans since 1066 topic, we learned about the Doomsday Book. We created our own versions of the Bayeux Tapestry. We made our own Norman shields and castles. We also had a Norman workshop where we had the opportunity to look at Norman artefacts.
Mrs Osbaldeston works across year 3 & 4.
Teaching Assistants Mrs Warrilow, Mrs Johal and Mrs Backorova support across year 4
Our Learning this Term
This term we are looking at Flat Stanley and his adventures. We will be writing our own adventure for Flat Stanley using expanded noun phrases and speech. You could help your child by encouraging him or her to write a letter to a relative and posting it.
During our Maths lessons, we have been learning about fractions and decimals. We would appreciate you getting involved with our fractions work by asking your child to find fractions of quantities and shapes.
In the afternoons, we are covering Science. So far, we have investigated sound. We will learn about states of matter next and finally electricity. Ask your child what exciting experiments they have conducted at school.
Please listen to your child read for at least 15 minutes a day. Quiz your child on their times tables and help them practice their spellings.
As part of our topic about The Egyptians, we will be going to Birmingham Museum on the 27th June 2018.
